| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, John R. Parish has received the 2009 Pioneer Award |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | from the Andrews Chamber of Commerce, and this occasion provides a |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | fitting opportunity to honor this esteemed Texan; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in 1931 in Wichita County, John Parish worked |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | at a young age to help support his family; he graduated from Iowa |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Park High School in 1948, and answering his nation's call to duty |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | two years later, he served with the U.S. Marines in Korea; he went |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | on to attend Midwestern State University and to begin working in the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | oilfields of East Texas; Mr. Parish moved to Andrews in 1956 and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | obtained a position with Tretolite Chemicals as a field service |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | engineer; he later launched his own business, the John R. Parish Oil |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Company, through which he drilled new wells and reworked others he |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | had purchased; still tending to 25 oil wells today, Mr. Parish has |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | established himself as a knowledgeable and highly regarded |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | businessman within the oil and gas industry of West Texas; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Despite his busy professional life, Mr. Parish has |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | volunteered his time and resources to his community, serving on the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | boards of local schools, as well as the Permian Regional Medical |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Center, and participating in the Lions Club; he has also been active |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | in the Andrews Industrial Foundation, helping to bring in |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | prospective new industries and diversify the local economy; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, A generous and dedicated citizen, John Parish has |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | earned the lasting respect and admiration of all who know him, and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | he may indeed reflect with great pride on his notable civic |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | contributions; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature hereby congratulate John R. Parish on his receipt of |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | the 2009 Pioneer Award from the Andrews Chamber of Commerce and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and |
