44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Dr. Sebetha Jenkins retired in 2008 after a notable
66 18-year tenure as president of Jarvis Christian College; and
77 WHEREAS, Dr. Jenkins became the 10th president of Jarvis
88 Christian College and the institution's first female head in 1990,
99 and through the years, her dedication and ability to inspire others
1010 have earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues; and
1111 WHEREAS, Under her outstanding leadership, the school has
1212 seen enrollment climb to its highest levels, as well as a marked
1313 increase in alumni contributions and involvement; students have
1414 also benefited from the addition of several new facilities,
1515 including the Sebetha Jenkins Living and Learning Complex and the
1616 Ronald L. Hay Student Services Center; and
1717 WHEREAS, Dr. Jenkins has further distinguished herself as a
1818 member of the President's Board of Advisors on Historically Black
1919 Colleges and Universities, to which she was appointed by President
2020 Bill Clinton; and
2121 WHEREAS, Jarvis Christian College has been greatly enriched
2222 by the dedication and vision that Dr. Sebetha Jenkins has brought to
2323 the office of president, and it is indeed fitting that she be
2424 honored for her achievements; now, therefore, be it
2525 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2626 Legislature hereby recognize Dr. Sebetha Jenkins on the occasion of
2727 her retirement as president of Jarvis Christian College and commend
2828 her for her many years of service to the college; and, be it further
2929 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3030 prepared for Dr. Jenkins as an expression of high regard by the
3131 Texas House of Representatives.
