| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Sebetha Jenkins retired in 2008 after a notable |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | 18-year tenure as president of Jarvis Christian College; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Jenkins became the 10th president of Jarvis |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Christian College and the institution's first female head in 1990, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | and through the years, her dedication and ability to inspire others |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | have earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Under her outstanding leadership, the school has |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | seen enrollment climb to its highest levels, as well as a marked |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | increase in alumni contributions and involvement; students have |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | also benefited from the addition of several new facilities, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | including the Sebetha Jenkins Living and Learning Complex and the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Ronald L. Hay Student Services Center; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Jenkins has further distinguished herself as a |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | member of the President's Board of Advisors on Historically Black |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Colleges and Universities, to which she was appointed by President |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Bill Clinton; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Jarvis Christian College has been greatly enriched |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | by the dedication and vision that Dr. Sebetha Jenkins has brought to |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | the office of president, and it is indeed fitting that she be |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | honored for her achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature hereby recognize Dr. Sebetha Jenkins on the occasion of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | her retirement as president of Jarvis Christian College and commend |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | her for her many years of service to the college; and, be it further |

| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
