| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Jeffery R. Brown was |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | honored by the West Texas organization Show of Support for his |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | valiant service in Iraq in November 2007; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 2004 to express gratitude to members of |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | the armed forces, Show of Support each year recognizes a group of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | military personnel who have been injured in the course of their |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | service; following a reception, these individuals are invited to |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | participate in an all-expenses paid white-tailed deer hunt; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, A member of the United States Marine Corps from 1996 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | to 2000, Staff Sergeant Brown subsequently served as an officer |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C.; he |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | went on to enlist in the United States Army and was assigned to C |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Company, 2/8th Infantry, 4th Infantry Division, stationed at Fort |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Hood; deployed to Iraq, he was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds he |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | sustained during combat in the Diyala province in March 2004; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Brown was named NCO of the Year for |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the 2/8th Infantry and was inducted into the Sergeant Audie Murphy |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Club; since that time, he received orders to join the 82nd Airborne |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his career in the military, Staff |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Sergeant Brown has demonstrated exemplary dedication and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | professionalism, and his unfaltering devotion to duty, honor, and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | this nation reflects the highest ideals of the United States armed |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | forces; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby honor U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Jeffery R. Brown |

| 31 | 31 | | for his steadfast valor and extend to him deepest appreciation for |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | his heroic efforts in this country's behalf; and, be it further |
