| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Residents of the Rio Grande Valley joined together |

| 6 | 6 | | on March 14, 2009, to celebrate the grand opening of the McAllen |

| 7 | 7 | | Heritage Center; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Founded in June 2008, the McAllen Heritage Center |

| 9 | 9 | | aims to promote and preserve local history and culture; in addition |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | to working to safeguard area buildings, the center serves as a |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | storehouse for artifacts from the region, hosts exhibits, and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | offers educational tours and events; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Currently, the initiative is fostering a greater |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | understanding and appreciation of the city's history through a |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | series of videos in which area historians share stories and local |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | lore; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, McAllen represents a colorful thread in the tapestry |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | of Texas history, and the McAllen Heritage Center will help to |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | ensure that its unique history will be preserved for generations to |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | come; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the grand opening of the McAllen |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Heritage Center and extend to all involved with this worthwhile |

| 24 | 24 | | initiative sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
