| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, School bus driver Margaret Bloomfield of the Lake |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Travis Independent School District came to the aid of an injured man |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | along her route on January 30, 2009, helping to save the man's life; |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, While driving her route every day, Ms. Bloomfield |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | had often exchanged a wave with Norman Birrell, who rides a golf |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | cart in the Homestead neighborhood daily; on this day, however, Ms. |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Bloomfield came across the cart overturned in a ditch; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Stopping the bus, Ms. Bloomfield spied Mr. Birrell |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | lying in the ditch by the vehicle; she radioed her dispatcher to |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | call for help, secured the children on the bus, and went to Mr. |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Birrell's aid; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, While the pair waited for emergency personnel to |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | arrive, Ms. Bloomfield comforted Mr. Birrell and called his wife to |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | help distract the injured man; remembering her first aid training |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | from her previous career as a hotel office manager, she also |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | insisted that he not move; since Mr. Birrell's injuries included a |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | broken neck, her wise counsel saved him from potential paralysis or |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | even death; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Through her swift, levelheaded, and compassionate |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | response in an emergency, Margaret Bloomfield has made an |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | immeasurable difference in the life of another human being, and she |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | is indeed worthy of special recognition for her lifesaving efforts; |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby commend Margaret Bloomfield for coming to the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | aid of an injured man and extend to her sincere best wishes for all |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | the good fortune she so richly deserves; and, be it further |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
