9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 33, Education Code, is |
---|
11 | 11 | | amended by adding Section 33.0831 to read as follows: |

12 | 12 | | Sec. 33.0831. SELECTION OF LOCATIONS FOR CERTAIN |
---|
13 | 13 | | EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITY COMPETITIONS. (a) This section applies |
---|
14 | 14 | | to extracurricular athletic, academic, or musical activities |
---|
15 | 15 | | sponsored or sanctioned by the University Interscholastic League. |
---|
16 | 16 | | (b) Except as provided by Subsection (d), the University |
---|
17 | 17 | | Interscholastic League may not select a location to host a regional |
---|
18 | 18 | | or statewide competition for an extracurricular activity if the |
---|
19 | 19 | | location served as host for the same competition during the |
---|
20 | 20 | | preceding year. |
---|
21 | 21 | | (c) The University Interscholastic League may not select a |
---|
22 | 22 | | location to host a regional or statewide competition for an |
---|
23 | 23 | | extracurricular activity unless the infrastructure and capacity of |
---|
24 | 24 | | the location's facilities are sufficient to serve the needs of the |
---|
25 | 25 | | competition. |
---|
26 | 26 | | (d) Subsection (b) does not prohibit the University |
---|
27 | 27 | | Interscholastic League from selecting a location that served as |
---|
28 | 28 | | host during the preceding year if an alternative location is not |
---|
29 | 29 | | available. |
---|
30 | 30 | | SECTION 2. Section 33.0831, Education Code, as added by |
---|
31 | 31 | | this Act, applies beginning with the 2010-2011 school year. |
---|
32 | 32 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
