9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 1001, Education Code, is | |
11 | 11 | amended by adding Section 1001.110 to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | Sec. 1001.110. INFORMATION RELATING TO DRIVING | |
13 | 13 | DISTRACTIONS. (a) The commissioner by rule shall require that | |
14 | 14 | information relating to the effect of using a wireless | |
15 | 15 | communication device or engaging in other actions that may distract | |
16 | 16 | a driver on the safe or effective operation of a motor vehicle be | |
17 | 17 | included in the curriculum of each driver education course or | |
18 | 18 | driving safety course. | |
19 | 19 | (b) In developing rules under this section, the | |
20 | 20 | commissioner shall consult with the department. | |
21 | 21 | SECTION 2. As soon as practicable after the effective date | |
22 | 22 | of this Act, the commissioner of education shall adopt the rules | |
23 | 23 | required by Section 1001.110, Education Code, as added by this Act. | |
24 | 24 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
