99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 1001, Education Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 1001.110 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 1001.110. INFORMATION RELATING TO DRIVING
1313 DISTRACTIONS. (a) The commissioner by rule shall require that
1414 information relating to the effect of using a wireless
1515 communication device or engaging in other actions that may distract
1616 a driver on the safe or effective operation of a motor vehicle be
1717 included in the curriculum of each driver education course or
1818 driving safety course.
1919 (b) In developing rules under this section, the
2020 commissioner shall consult with the department.
2121 SECTION 2. As soon as practicable after the effective date
2222 of this Act, the commissioner of education shall adopt the rules
2323 required by Section 1001.110, Education Code, as added by this Act.
2424 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
