| 7 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 24, Government Code, is |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | amended by adding Section 24.034 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Sec. 24.034. ASSIGNMENT OF CASES IN DISTRICT COURTS IN |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | HIDALGO COUNTY. (a) All civil and criminal cases in the district |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | courts in Hidalgo County shall be assigned and docketed at random by |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the district clerk using an automated system. |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (b) In assigning a case to a district court, the district |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | clerk shall take into consideration any requirement in Subchapter B |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | that a district court in Hidalgo County give preference to specific |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | matters. |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | SECTION 2. The following provisions of the Government Code |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | are repealed: |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (1) Subsection (d), Section 24.194; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (2) Subsection (d), Section 24.195; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (3) Subsection (d), Section 24.241; |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (4) Subsection (b), Section 24.385; |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (5) Subsection (b), Section 24.452; |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | (6) Subsection (b), Section 24.478; |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | (7) Subsection (b), Section 24.515; |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | (8) Subsection (c), Section 24.534; |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | (9) Subsection (c), Section 24.543; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | (10) Subsection (c), Section 24.574. |

| 30 | 30 | | SECTION 3. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | to a case assigned to a Hidalgo County district court on or after |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | the effective date of this Act. |

| 33 | 33 | | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
