1010 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1111 AN ACT
1212 relating to the coordination and administration of the Texas Career
1313 Opportunity Grant Program.
1414 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1515 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 305, Labor Code, is
1616 amended by adding Section 305.003 to read as follows:
1717 Sec. 305.003. MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING. The commission
1818 and the coordinating board shall enter into a memorandum of
1919 understanding for the coordination and administration of the grant
2020 program established under Subchapter B. Functions assigned to the
2121 commission under this chapter may be assigned to the coordinating
2222 board pursuant to the memorandum of understanding.
2323 SECTION 2. The transfer to the Texas Higher Education
2424 Coordinating Board of any functions relating to the administration
2525 of the Texas Career Opportunity Grant Program pursuant to a
2626 memorandum of understanding entered into under Section 305.003,
2727 Labor Code, as added by this Act, applies beginning with grants
2828 awarded for the 2010 fall semester. Grants awarded for an academic
2929 period before that semester are covered by the law in effect
3030 immediately before the effective date of this Act, and the former
3131 law is continued in effect for that purpose.
3232 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3333 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3434 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3535 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3636 Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
