66 relating to notification sent by the Texas Ethics Commission to
77 certain persons regarding deadlines to file reports.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 251.033, Election Code, is amended to
1010 read as follows:
1111 Sec. 251.033. NOTIFICATION OF DEADLINE FOR FILING REPORTS.
1212 (a) The commission shall notify each person responsible for filing
1313 a report with the commission under Subchapters C through F, Chapter
1414 254, of the deadline for filing a report, except that notice of the
1515 deadline is not required for a political committee involved in an
1616 election other than a primary election or the general election for
1717 state and county officers. Notification under this subsection may
1818 be sent by electronic mail.
1919 (b) If the commission is unable to notify a person of a
2020 deadline after two attempts, the commission is not required to make
2121 any further attempts to notify the person of that deadline or any
2222 future deadlines until the person has notified the commission of
2323 the person's current address or electronic mail address.
2424 (c) Chapter 552, Government Code, does not apply to a
2525 notification under this section sent by electronic mail.
2626 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2727 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2828 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2929 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3030 Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
