8 | 8 | | specific-purpose committees in connection with certain judicial |

9 | 9 | | offices of political contributions and expenditures following the |

10 | 10 | | end of the period during which those entities may accept political |
---|
11 | 11 | | contributions. |

12 | 12 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

13 | 13 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 254, Election Code, is |
---|
14 | 14 | | amended by adding Section 254.0641 to read as follows: |
---|
15 | 15 | | Sec. 254.0641. ADDITIONAL REPORT OF JUDICIAL CANDIDATES. |
---|
16 | 16 | | (a) In addition to other required reports, a candidate for a |
---|
17 | 17 | | judicial office covered by Subchapter F, Chapter 253, shall file a |
---|
18 | 18 | | report as provided by this section. |
---|
19 | 19 | | (b) The report shall be filed not later than the 15th day |
---|
20 | 20 | | after the last day on which the candidate may accept a political |
---|
21 | 21 | | contribution under Section 253.153(a)(2). The report covers the |
---|
22 | 22 | | period beginning the day the candidate's campaign treasurer |
---|
23 | 23 | | appointment is filed or the first day after the period covered by |
---|
24 | 24 | | the last report required to be filed under this chapter, as |
---|
25 | 25 | | applicable, and continuing through the last day on which the |
---|
26 | 26 | | candidate may accept a political contribution under Section |
---|
27 | 27 | | 253.153(a)(2). |

28 | 28 | | SECTION 2. Subchapter D, Chapter 254, Election Code, is |
---|
29 | 29 | | amended by adding Section 254.0941 to read as follows: |

30 | 30 | | Sec. 254.0941. ADDITIONAL REPORT OF JUDICIAL OFFICEHOLDERS. |
---|
31 | 31 | | (a) In addition to other required reports, a holder of a judicial |
---|
32 | 32 | | office covered by Subchapter F, Chapter 253, shall file a report as |
---|
33 | 33 | | provided by this section. |
---|
34 | 34 | | (b) The report shall be filed not later than the 15th day |
---|
35 | 35 | | after the last day on which the officeholder may accept a political |
---|
36 | 36 | | contribution under Section 253.153(a)(2). The report covers the |
---|
37 | 37 | | period beginning the day the officeholder files a campaign |
---|
38 | 38 | | treasurer appointment or the first day after the period covered by |
---|
39 | 39 | | the last report required to be filed under this chapter, as |
---|
40 | 40 | | applicable, and continuing through the last day on which the |
---|
41 | 41 | | officeholder may accept a political contribution under Section |
---|
42 | 42 | | 253.153(a)(2). |

43 | 43 | | SECTION 3. Subchapter E, Chapter 254, Election Code, is |
---|
44 | 44 | | amended by adding Section 254.1241 to read as follows: |

45 | 45 | | Sec. 254.1241. ADDITIONAL REPORT OF CERTAIN COMMITTEES. (a) |
---|
46 | 46 | | In addition to other required reports, a specific-purpose committee |
---|
47 | 47 | | for supporting or opposing a candidate for or assisting a holder of |
---|
48 | 48 | | a judicial office covered by Subchapter F, Chapter 253, shall file a |
---|
49 | 49 | | report as provided by this section. |
---|
50 | 50 | | (b) The report shall be filed not later than the 15th day |
---|
51 | 51 | | after the last day on which the committee may accept a political |
---|
52 | 52 | | contribution under Section 253.153(a)(2). The report covers the |
---|
53 | 53 | | period beginning the day the committee's campaign treasurer |
---|
54 | 54 | | appointment is filed or the first day after the period covered by |
---|
55 | 55 | | the last report required to be filed under this chapter, as |
---|
56 | 56 | | applicable, and continuing through the last day on which the |
---|
57 | 57 | | committee may accept a political contribution under Section |
---|
58 | 58 | | 253.153(a)(2). |
---|
59 | 59 | | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
---|
