66 AN ACT
77 relating to the reporting by candidates, officeholders, and
88 specific-purpose committees in connection with certain judicial
99 offices of political contributions and expenditures following the
1010 end of the period during which those entities may accept political
1111 contributions.
1212 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 254, Election Code, is
1414 amended by adding Section 254.0641 to read as follows:
1515 Sec. 254.0641. ADDITIONAL REPORT OF JUDICIAL CANDIDATES.
1616 (a) In addition to other required reports, a candidate for a
1717 judicial office covered by Subchapter F, Chapter 253, shall file a
1818 report as provided by this section.
1919 (b) The report shall be filed not later than the 15th day
2020 after the last day on which the candidate may accept a political
2121 contribution under Section 253.153(a)(2). The report covers the
2222 period beginning the day the candidate's campaign treasurer
2323 appointment is filed or the first day after the period covered by
2424 the last report required to be filed under this chapter, as
2525 applicable, and continuing through the last day on which the
2626 candidate may accept a political contribution under Section
2727 253.153(a)(2).
2828 SECTION 2. Subchapter D, Chapter 254, Election Code, is
2929 amended by adding Section 254.0941 to read as follows:
3030 Sec. 254.0941. ADDITIONAL REPORT OF JUDICIAL OFFICEHOLDERS.
3131 (a) In addition to other required reports, a holder of a judicial
3232 office covered by Subchapter F, Chapter 253, shall file a report as
3333 provided by this section.
3434 (b) The report shall be filed not later than the 15th day
3535 after the last day on which the officeholder may accept a political
3636 contribution under Section 253.153(a)(2). The report covers the
3737 period beginning the day the officeholder files a campaign
3838 treasurer appointment or the first day after the period covered by
3939 the last report required to be filed under this chapter, as
4040 applicable, and continuing through the last day on which the
4141 officeholder may accept a political contribution under Section
4242 253.153(a)(2).
4343 SECTION 3. Subchapter E, Chapter 254, Election Code, is
4444 amended by adding Section 254.1241 to read as follows:
4545 Sec. 254.1241. ADDITIONAL REPORT OF CERTAIN COMMITTEES. (a)
4646 In addition to other required reports, a specific-purpose committee
4747 for supporting or opposing a candidate for or assisting a holder of
4848 a judicial office covered by Subchapter F, Chapter 253, shall file a
4949 report as provided by this section.
5050 (b) The report shall be filed not later than the 15th day
5151 after the last day on which the committee may accept a political
5252 contribution under Section 253.153(a)(2). The report covers the
5353 period beginning the day the committee's campaign treasurer
5454 appointment is filed or the first day after the period covered by
5555 the last report required to be filed under this chapter, as
5656 applicable, and continuing through the last day on which the
5757 committee may accept a political contribution under Section
5858 253.153(a)(2).
5959 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
