| 6 | 6 | | relating to providing training in personal financial literacy |

| 7 | 7 | | instruction for public school teachers. |

| 8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Subsection (d), Section 8.051, Education Code, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | is amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | (d) Each regional education service center shall maintain |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | core services for purchase by school districts and campuses. The |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | core services are: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (1) training and assistance in: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (A) teaching each subject area assessed under |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Section 39.023; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (B) providing instruction in personal financial |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | literacy as required under Section 28.0021; |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (2) training and assistance in providing each program |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | that qualifies for a funding allotment under Section 42.151, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | 42.152, 42.153, or 42.156; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (3) assistance specifically designed for a school |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | district rated academically unacceptable under Section 39.072(a) |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | or a campus whose performance is considered unacceptable based on |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the indicators adopted under Section 39.051; |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | (4) training and assistance to teachers, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | administrators, members of district boards of trustees, and members |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | of site-based decision-making committees; |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | (5) assistance specifically designed for a school |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | district that is considered out of compliance with state or federal |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | special education requirements, based on the agency's most recent |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | compliance review of the district's special education programs; and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | (6) assistance in complying with state laws and rules. |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
