55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to coordinated health education for certain public school
88 principals and superintendents.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 21.054, Education Code, is amended by
1111 adding Subsection (d) to read as follows:
1212 (d) Continuing education requirements for a superintendent
1313 or a principal of an elementary, middle, or junior high school must
1414 include at least two hours of classroom education training every
1515 five years regarding coordinated health programs required under
1616 Sections 38.013 and 38.014. The board, in conjunction with the
1717 Texas Department of Agriculture, the Department of State Health
1818 Services, and the agency, shall develop or approve a curriculum
1919 that may be used for purposes of this subsection. The curriculum
2020 must provide instruction regarding:
2121 (1) health education;
2222 (2) physical education and physical activity;
2323 (3) nutrition services; and
2424 (4) parental involvement.
2525 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
