| 6 | 6 | | interpreters for the deaf or hard of hearing may be conducted. |

| 7 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Subsection (i), Section 81.007, Human Resources |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Code, is amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | (i) The commission shall determine the frequency for |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | conducting the interpreter examinations. The commission shall |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | conduct the interpreter examinations: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (1) in a space [Austin at the commission's office or in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | other space owned or leased by the state] that can be obtained free |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | of charge; or |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (2) at a facility selected in compliance with Section |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | 2113.106, Government Code [in other cities in this state in space |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | that can be obtained free of charge]. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
