| 7 | 7 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 8 | 8 | SECTION 1. Section 5, Chapter 118, Acts of the 63rd | |
| 9 | 9 | Legislature, Regular Session, 1973, is amended by adding a new | |
| 10 | 10 | subsection (k) to read as follows: | |
| 11 | 11 | (k) The board of trustees may employ physicians, dentists, | |
| 12 | 12 | and podiatrists as the board considers necessary for the efficient | |
| 13 | 13 | operation of the district. This subsection may not be construed as | |
| 14 | 14 | authorizing the board to supervise or control the practice of | |
| 15 | 15 | medicine, as prohibited by Subtitle B, Title 3, Occupations Code. | |
| 16 | 16 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 17 | 17 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 18 | 18 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 19 | 19 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 20 | 20 | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
