55 relating to reimbursement of expenses incurred by court reporters

77 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
88 SECTION 1. Section 52.057, Government Code, is amended by
99 adding Subsection (f) to read as follows:
1010 (f) In lieu of the reimbursements authorized by Section
1111 52.055, the official court reporters for the 506th Judicial
1212 District shall receive reimbursement for actual and necessary
1313 expenses, including travel expenses, in an amount equal to the
1414 amount of reimbursement that would be provided to a public servant
1515 of the county in which the court is sitting at the time the court
1616 reporter incurs the expenses if the public servant had incurred the
1717 expenses. Each county in the district shall pay a portion of the
1818 reimbursement authorized by this subsection in the proportion that
1919 the county's population bears to the total population of the
2020 district. For purposes of this subsection, "public servant"
2121 includes an officer, employee, or agent of a county.
2222 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies to
2323 expenses incurred by a court reporter on or after the effective date
2424 of this Act. Expenses incurred by a court reporter before the
2525 effective date of this Act are governed by the law in effect on the
2626 date the expenses were incurred, and the former law is continued in
2727 effect for that purpose.
2828 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
