55 relating to applicability of fee exemptions for military personnel
66 and their children to certain course fees charged by public
77 technical institutes and public state colleges.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Subsection (g), Section 54.203, Education Code,
1010 is amended to read as follows:
1111 (g) The governing board of a public junior college, public
1212 technical institute, or public state college, as those terms are
1313 defined by Section 61.003, [district] may establish a fee for
1414 extraordinary costs associated with a specific course or program
1515 and may provide that the exemptions provided by Subsections (a) and
1616 (b) do not apply to this fee.
1717 SECTION 2. Section 54.203, Education Code, as amended by
1818 this Act, applies beginning with fees charged for the 2009 fall
1919 semester. Fees charged for an academic period before that semester
2020 are covered by the law in effect immediately before the effective
2121 date of this Act, and the former law is continued in effect for that
2222 purpose.
2323 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2424 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2525 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2626 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2727 Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
