66 AN ACT
77 relating to consideration of students' preferred class times in
88 establishing course schedules at public institutions of higher
99 education.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 51, Education Code, is
1212 amended by adding Section 51.976 to read as follows:
1313 Sec. 51.976. COURSE SCHEDULE TO CONSIDER STUDENTS'
1414 PREFERRED CLASS TIMES. (a) In this section, "governing board" and
1515 "institution of higher education" have the meanings assigned by
1616 Section 61.003.
1717 (b) The governing board of each institution of higher
1818 education shall adopt a policy requiring the office or division
1919 responsible for creating the institution's course schedule to:
2020 (1) periodically survey enrolled students concerning
2121 the students' preferred class times; and
2222 (2) consider the survey results in establishing class
2323 times for future semesters or other academic terms.
2424 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2525 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2626 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2727 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2828 Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
