| 10 | 10 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 11 | 11 | SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 51, Education Code, is | |
| 12 | 12 | amended by adding Section 51.976 to read as follows: | |
| 13 | 13 | Sec. 51.976. COURSE SCHEDULE TO CONSIDER STUDENTS' | |
| 14 | 14 | PREFERRED CLASS TIMES. (a) In this section, "governing board" and | |
| 15 | 15 | "institution of higher education" have the meanings assigned by | |
| 16 | 16 | Section 61.003. | |
| 17 | 17 | (b) The governing board of each institution of higher | |
| 18 | 18 | education shall adopt a policy requiring the office or division | |
| 19 | 19 | responsible for creating the institution's course schedule to: | |
| 20 | 20 | (1) periodically survey enrolled students concerning | |
| 21 | 21 | the students' preferred class times; and | |
| 22 | 22 | (2) consider the survey results in establishing class | |
| 23 | 23 | times for future semesters or other academic terms. | |
| 24 | 24 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 25 | 25 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 26 | 26 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 27 | 27 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 28 | 28 | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
