| 7 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter E, Chapter 662, Government Code, is |

| 9 | 9 | | amended by adding Section 662.153 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Sec. 662.153. MONARCH BUTTERFLY WEEK. (a) The first seven |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | days of October are Monarch Butterfly Week to encourage Texas |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | residents and visitors to study, observe, and promote the life of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the state insect, the monarch butterfly. |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (b) Through participation in the Texas Monarch Watch |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | program sponsored by the Parks and Wildlife Department, Texas |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | residents and visitors may help scientists answer research |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | questions about monarch biology and migration. |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
