| 7 | 7 | | relating to a requirement that school districts notify employees |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | regarding entitlement to leave time in circumstances involving |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | assault. |

| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Section 22.003, Education Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | adding Subsection (c-1) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (c-1) Not later than the last day of the first week of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | instruction for the fall semester of each school year, a school |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | district shall notify each district employee in writing of the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | employee's rights under Subsection (b). The notification must |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | appear in bold-faced type using at least a 14-point font size. The |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | notification may be provided electronically or on paper. If a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | district provides the notification by including it in an electronic |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | or paper version of an informational teacher handbook or other |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | informational handbook, the notification must appear on the first |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | page that immediately follows the table of contents. |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2009-2010 |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | school year. |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
