66 AN ACT
77 relating to a requirement that school districts notify employees
88 regarding entitlement to leave time in circumstances involving
99 assault.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Section 22.003, Education Code, is amended by
1212 adding Subsection (c-1) to read as follows:
1313 (c-1) Not later than the last day of the first week of
1414 instruction for the fall semester of each school year, a school
1515 district shall notify each district employee in writing of the
1616 employee's rights under Subsection (b). The notification must
1717 appear in bold-faced type using at least a 14-point font size. The
1818 notification may be provided electronically or on paper. If a
1919 district provides the notification by including it in an electronic
2020 or paper version of an informational teacher handbook or other
2121 informational handbook, the notification must appear on the first
2222 page that immediately follows the table of contents.
2323 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2009-2010
2424 school year.
2525 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2626 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2727 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2828 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2929 Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
