4	4	SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
5	5	WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is pleased to
6	6	join the Texas Renal Coalition in recognizing February 17, 2009, as
7	7	Kidney Day at the State Capitol; and
8	8	WHEREAS, The Texas Renal Coalition is a leader in the
9	9	prevention and mitigation of the risks, effects, and burdens of
10	10	chronic kidney diseases; the coalition forms partnerships with
11	11	state agencies and volunteer groups to support victims and to
12	12	educate the public about the disease; and
13	13	WHEREAS, The coalition monitors health policies for dialysis
14	14	and transplant patients, offers educational programs to improve
15	15	public awareness about the disease, and acts as a clearinghouse for
16	16	information related to legislative issues; and
17	17	WHEREAS, The coalition is a participant on the Chronic Kidney
18	18	Disease Task Force and works with the Texas Department of State
19	19	Health Services and other organizations to educate health care
20	20	professionals about the advantages of early screening, diagnosis,
21	21	and treatment of chronic kidney disease and end stage renal
22	22	disease; and
23	23	WHEREAS, Across the state, members of the Texas Renal
24	24	Coalition, volunteers, physicians, trained health care providers,
25	25	organizational partners, patients, and family members are doing an
26	26	outstanding job in their efforts to provide the best care for kidney
27	27	patients and those at risk for kidney disease, and they all deserve
28	28	recognition for their dedication and valuable services; now,
29	29	therefore, be it
30	30	RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
31	31	hereby proclaim February 17, 2009, as Kidney Day at the State
32	32	Capitol and extend a warm welcome to kidney patients and kidney
33	33	health care providers and advocates who are visiting Austin today;
34	34	and, be it further
35	35	RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for the
36	36	Texas Renal Coalition to commemorate Kidney Day at the State
37	37	Capitol.
