44 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
55 WHEREAS, Hill College has installed the Texas Medal of Honor
66 Memorial as a tribute to all native-born Texans who have received
77 that distinction, the highest award that can be bestowed on a member
88 of the United States armed forces; and
99 WHEREAS, Located on the campus of Hill College in front of the
1010 Texas Heritage Museum, the memorial serves to enhance the mission
1111 of the museum, which is to explore the experience of Texas and
1212 Texans in wartime and the ways in which that experience continues to
1313 affect us today; and
1414 WHEREAS, Of the more than 3,400 individuals who had received
1515 the Medal of Honor as of January 1, 2009, 56 individuals were born
1616 in the Lone Star State; the central shaft of the memorial highlights
1717 the valor of Texans Audie Murphy and Samuel Dealey, the most
1818 decorated members of the United States Army and Navy, respectively,
1919 in World War II; and
2020 WHEREAS, Among the prized holdings of the Texas Heritage
2121 Museum are an extensive collection of Audie Murphy's personal
2222 artifacts from World War II, the Medal of Honor that was awarded to
2323 James Harris, a World War II tank commander and Hillsboro native,
2424 and a large number of photographs and documents relating to other
2525 Texan Medal of Honor recipients; and
2626 WHEREAS, To be considered as a nominee for the Medal of Honor,
2727 a man or woman must have demonstrated conspicuous gallantry and
2828 intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty and at the risk of his
2929 or her life; in paying solemn tribute to those Texans who have
3030 exemplified the highest standards of courage, selflessness, and
3131 devotion to duty, the memorial at Hill College commemorates those
3232 who have earned the lasting gratitude and respect of all Americans;
3333 now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
3535 hereby designate the Texas Medal of Honor Memorial at Hill College
3636 as the official State Memorial to Texas-Born Medal of Honor
3737 Recipients.
