| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Hill College has installed the Texas Medal of Honor |

| 6 | 6 | | Memorial as a tribute to all native-born Texans who have received |

| 7 | 7 | | that distinction, the highest award that can be bestowed on a member |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | of the United States armed forces; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Located on the campus of Hill College in front of the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Texas Heritage Museum, the memorial serves to enhance the mission |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | of the museum, which is to explore the experience of Texas and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Texans in wartime and the ways in which that experience continues to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | affect us today; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Of the more than 3,400 individuals who had received |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the Medal of Honor as of January 1, 2009, 56 individuals were born |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | in the Lone Star State; the central shaft of the memorial highlights |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the valor of Texans Audie Murphy and Samuel Dealey, the most |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | decorated members of the United States Army and Navy, respectively, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | in World War II; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Among the prized holdings of the Texas Heritage |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Museum are an extensive collection of Audie Murphy's personal |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | artifacts from World War II, the Medal of Honor that was awarded to |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | James Harris, a World War II tank commander and Hillsboro native, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | and a large number of photographs and documents relating to other |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Texan Medal of Honor recipients; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, To be considered as a nominee for the Medal of Honor, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | a man or woman must have demonstrated conspicuous gallantry and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty and at the risk of his |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | or her life; in paying solemn tribute to those Texans who have |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | exemplified the highest standards of courage, selflessness, and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | devotion to duty, the memorial at Hill College commemorates those |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | who have earned the lasting gratitude and respect of all Americans; |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas |

| 35 | 35 | | hereby designate the Texas Medal of Honor Memorial at Hill College |

| 36 | 36 | | as the official State Memorial to Texas-Born Medal of Honor |
