 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 WHEREAS, In an exceptional performance in the first series of
 the 2009 baseball season, Leo Aguirre of Austin helped his New
 Mexico State University baseball team complete a three-game sweep
 of the University of North Dakota on February 20 and 21; and
 WHEREAS, When Mr. Aguirre took his place in left field for the
 Aggies in Friday's opening game, it was the beginning of his junior
 season of college ball; he wasted no time in showing that he was
 ready for action by reaching base four times, batting in a run, and
 scoring two runs as his team began 2009 with a 15-4 victory; and
 WHEREAS, The final two matchups of the series were played as a
 doubleheader on Saturday; in the first game, Mr. Aguirre led the New
 Mexico State attack, hitting three home runs and a double in six
 at-bats; this breakout performance was a major factor in the
 Aggies' commanding 16-2 win and greatly pleased head coach Rocky
 Ward; and
 WHEREAS, New Mexico State completed the series sweep by
 taking Saturday's second game by a score of 12-6; once again, Mr.
 Aguirre had a productive game at the plate, accumulating three hits
 and two RBIs and also scoring two runs; and
 WHEREAS, This talented Texan is the son of Lionel B. Aguirre
 and the late Lena Guerrero; he attended James Bowie High School in
 Austin, where he garnered all-district, all-Central Texas, and
 all-state honors for his outstanding play for the Bulldogs baseball
 team; in 2006, he enrolled at New Mexico State and has been a
 valuable member of the Aggies squad since his freshman season; and
 WHEREAS, An exceptional player who has proven his abilities
 in college competition, Leo Aguirre is furthering the Lone Star
 State's reputation for producing superior athletes, and he is
 poised for additional achievements in the games that lie ahead;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
 hereby congratulate Leo Aguirre on his fine performance with the
 New Mexico State University baseball team in the opening series of
 the 2009 season and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
 success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Aguirre as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
