SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1001 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Betty Gayle Davis Corley, an outstanding Texas citizen and a leader in her community; and WHEREAS, Born in Knox City, Texas, Betty Gayle Davis was raised in Throckmorton and attended Throckmorton High School; she was a proud Greyhound and a member of the choir and band; she earned medals in solo and ensemble contests on the alto saxophone and was valedictorian of the class of 1958; and WHEREAS, She graduated from Texas Tech University, where she represented Zeta Tau Alpha in the Miss Lubbock Contest; she married Richard Corley on August 18, 1962, and began a teaching career with the Dallas Independent School District; and WHEREAS, After her daughter was born in 1967, Mrs. Corley retired from teaching to be a stay-at-home parent, and in 1972, she and her family moved to Denton, where she has been an active member of First Baptist Church for more than 35 years and has been dedicated to her work as a homemaker; and WHEREAS, Her work in the Denton community has included participation in such charitable organizations as the Denton Benefit League and the Denton Aerial Club; she is an accomplished pianist, and over the years, her hobbies have included crocheting, china painting, bowling, tennis, and bridge; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend Betty Gayle Davis Corley on her many accomplishments and her exemplary citizenship; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
