                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1005
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Dr. David Splitek, who is retiring from the position of
 superintendent of the Lackland Independent School District after
 a career in education spanning nearly 40 years; and
 WHEREAS, A graduate of the University of Wisconsin at
 Madison, Dr. Splitek earned his master's and doctoral degrees at
 The University of Texas at Austin; he became superintendent of
 the Lackland Independent School District in 2000 after a career
 that has seen him serve at nearly every level of the educational
 system; and
 WHEREAS, Dr. Splitek began his career in education as a
 junior high school mathematics teacher in Albuquerque and El
 Paso; he went on to teach at Texas A&M University, Trinity
 University, and The University of Texas at San Antonio and to
 serve as an administrator in the San Antonio Independent School
 District; and
 WHEREAS, Active in civic and professional affairs, Dr.
 Splitek has served with the American Association of School
 Administrators, the Military Child Education Coalition, the San
 Antonio Founder Lions Club, and many other outstanding
 organizations; and
 WHEREAS, A talented and resourceful educator and
 administrator, Dr. Splitek has handled his many responsibilities
 with exceptional efficiency and dedication; he is respected and
 admired by his colleagues, and his presence at the Lackland
 Independent School District will be greatly missed; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
 Legislature, hereby commend Dr. David Splitek on his commitment
 to education and extend to him best wishes for the retirement
 years ahead; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
