| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Mark Vallejo, who has been named the Communities in |

| 4 | 4 | | Schools Board Member of the Year; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, This prestigious award honors those who have |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | demonstrated superior commitment to the Communities in Schools |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | program with outstanding initiative, leadership, and creativity; |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, An employee of IBM Corporation, Mr. Vallejo has |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | been a member of the board of Communities in Schools of San |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Antonio, Incorporated, for 10 years; during his tenure as a board |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | member, he has served two terms as board chair and has chaired |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | three standing committees; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, In addition to attending board meetings, where he |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | actively participates and provides valuable input, Mr. Vallejo |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | attends charity events to help raise support and funds for the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | organization, and he has adopted two schools to better gain |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | valuable experience with school staff, faculty, and students; |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Vallejo routinely makes campus visits, where |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | he uses his exceptional communication skills to work with |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | students and staff; he has also spent his personal funds on a |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | donation to a participating campus and for such items as track |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | shoes for students who want to take part in athletics; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Vallejo is truly deserving of recognition for |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the time, effort, and passion he applies to this outstanding |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | program; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby commend Mark Vallejo on his committed |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | involvement in education and his many outstanding achievements |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | on behalf of Communities in Schools of San Antonio, Incorporated, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | and extend congratulations to him on being named Communities in |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Schools Board Member of the Year; and, be it further |
