44 Eleanor Hall Pitcock
55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of Houston in mourning the loss of Eleanor Hall "Puddie"
77 Pitcock, who died May 14, 2009; and
88 WHEREAS, Eleanor Pitcock was reared in Dallas and
99 graduated as valedictorian of her class at Sunset High School;
1010 she went on to attend Rice University, where she earned a degree
1111 in history; and
1212 WHEREAS, Mrs. Pitcock gave generously to numerous
1313 philanthropic causes and organizations; usually operating
1414 anonymously, she purchased many works of art for churches and
1515 cathedrals across the nation; in 1990, she and her husband Doug
1616 anonymously purchased a sculpture of Saint Francis of Assisi,
1717 which was presented to Soviet premier Mikhail Gorbachev for his
1818 role in ending the Cold War; and
1919 WHEREAS, A strong advocate for the homeless, Mrs. Pitcock
2020 often provided them help with medical expenses and coats during
2121 the winter months, and she was known among them as "Angel of the
2222 Streets"; she was a staunch supporter of the Salvation Army, Star
2323 of Hope, and Service of the Emergency Aid Resource Center for the
2424 Homeless, and she served on the board of Covenant House; and
2525 WHEREAS, Mrs. Pitcock was a devout Christian who practiced
2626 her faith in her daily life through her generosity and
2727 unselfishness and her warmth and compassion will not soon be
2828 forgotten; and
2929 WHEREAS, Mrs. Pitcock was a devoted wife and mother, and
3030 she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by her
3131 family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
3333 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3434 family of Eleanor Hall Pitcock: her husband of 58 years, James D.
3535 Pitcock, Jr.; and her son, James D. Pitcock III; and, be it
3636 further
3737 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3838 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3939 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4040 memory of Eleanor Hall Pitcock.
