5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
---|
6 | 6 | | citizens of Houston in mourning the loss of Eleanor Hall "Puddie" |
---|
7 | 7 | | Pitcock, who died May 14, 2009; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Eleanor Pitcock was reared in Dallas and |
---|
9 | 9 | | graduated as valedictorian of her class at Sunset High School; |
---|
10 | 10 | | she went on to attend Rice University, where she earned a degree |
---|
11 | 11 | | in history; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Pitcock gave generously to numerous |
---|
13 | 13 | | philanthropic causes and organizations; usually operating |
---|
14 | 14 | | anonymously, she purchased many works of art for churches and |
---|
15 | 15 | | cathedrals across the nation; in 1990, she and her husband Doug |
---|
16 | 16 | | anonymously purchased a sculpture of Saint Francis of Assisi, |
---|
17 | 17 | | which was presented to Soviet premier Mikhail Gorbachev for his |
---|
18 | 18 | | role in ending the Cold War; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, A strong advocate for the homeless, Mrs. Pitcock |
---|
20 | 20 | | often provided them help with medical expenses and coats during |
---|
21 | 21 | | the winter months, and she was known among them as "Angel of the |
---|
22 | 22 | | Streets"; she was a staunch supporter of the Salvation Army, Star |
---|
23 | 23 | | of Hope, and Service of the Emergency Aid Resource Center for the |
---|
24 | 24 | | Homeless, and she served on the board of Covenant House; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Pitcock was a devout Christian who practiced |
---|
26 | 26 | | her faith in her daily life through her generosity and |
---|
27 | 27 | | unselfishness and her warmth and compassion will not soon be |
---|
28 | 28 | | forgotten; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Pitcock was a devoted wife and mother, and |
---|
30 | 30 | | she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by her |
---|
31 | 31 | | family and many friends; now, therefore, be it |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
---|
33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
34 | 34 | | family of Eleanor Hall Pitcock: her husband of 58 years, James D. |
---|
35 | 35 | | Pitcock, Jr.; and her son, James D. Pitcock III; and, be it |

37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

38 | 38 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
