| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Mary Speer Garza and David Garza on the occasion of |

| 4 | 4 | | their retirement as educators; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Garza are retiring with a combined |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | total of close to 60 years in education; both Mary Garza and David |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Garza are highly regarded educators renowned for their |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | resourcefulness and their commitment to providing students with |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | the foundation they need to further their education and go on to |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | become productive citizens in their communities; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Mary Garza is retiring from Alma Pierce |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Elementary School in Laredo after 30 years in education; she also |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | taught for the Job Corps, Ochoa Elementary School, Ligarde |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Elementary School, and Nixon High School; an exemplary role model |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | for other teachers, she was selected this year by her peers at |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Alma Pierce Elementary School as the Golden Apple Teacher of the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Year; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, David Garza is retiring as principal of Alicia |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Ruiz Elementary School in Laredo; he taught at Nye Elementary |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | School for 12 years before moving into educational |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | administration in 1992; he was an assistant principal for the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Alicia Ruiz Elementary School for six years before becoming |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | principal in 1998; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Garza have had a positive impact on |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the lives of many children and faculty members in the schools of |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Laredo, and they will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby commend Mary Speer Garza and David Garza for |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | their many contributions to the education system of this state |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | and extend to them best wishes for the retirement years ahead; |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | and, be it further |

| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
