55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Jonathan David Chatham, who died April
77 15, 2008, at the age of 22; and
88 WHEREAS, Jonathan Chatham was born April 15, 1986; he was a
99 2004 graduate of Hill Country Christian School, where he excelled
1010 in theater and played numerous sports; he was an outstanding
1111 baseball player who was named honorable mention all-state by the
1212 Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools; and
1313 WHEREAS, Jonathan participated for several years in
1414 Destination Imagination, a program based on creative
1515 problem-solving; he served for seven years as cocaptain of his
1616 team, which won the state championship in 2002 and went on to
1717 compete in a world competition against teams from six countries;
1818 and
1919 WHEREAS, Jonathan was a prolific writer whose output
2020 included many short stories and an original screenplay which was
2121 to be submitted to the Austin Film Festival; and
2222 WHEREAS, Jonathan was a devout Christian who applied his
2323 beliefs in all aspects of his daily life; even though his days
2424 were tragically cut short by a drunk driver, he leaves behind a
2525 legacy of a life well-lived, embodying the principles of his
2626 faith; and
2727 WHEREAS, A young man of compassion, humor, and dedication,
2828 he gave generously to others, and his spirit, strength, and
2929 enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be
3030 forgotten by those who knew him; and
3131 WHEREAS, Jonathan was a devoted son and brother, and he
3232 leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his
3333 family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
3535 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3636 family of Jonathan Chatham: his parents, Cush and Donna Chatham;
3737 and his sister, Danielle Chatham; and, be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3939 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4040 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4141 memory of Jonathan David Chatham.
