| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Antonio Orendain for his many contributions to the |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | struggle for civil rights and farm workers' rights in our state; |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to obtaining basic rights for farm |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | workers, Mr. Orendain played an important role in the founding of |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | the United Farm Workers of America; he arrived in the Rio Grande |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Valley in 1966, where he worked tirelessly to improve the lot of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | farm workers in the state; he went on to found the Texas Farm |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Workers Union in 1975; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, In 1977, Mr. Orendain organized and led a march |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | from San Juan to the State Capitol in Austin to protest working |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | conditions and wages for farm workers in the Rio Grande Valley; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | from there, he led his marchers to Washington, D.C.; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, A man of courage, resolve, and determination, Mr. |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Orendain is truly deserving of recognition for his many |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | contributions to the working men and women of Texas; now, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Legislature, hereby commend Antonio Orendain on his commitment |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | to improving the lives of farm workers; and, be it further |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
