55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of El Ranchito in mourning the loss of Jos Dionicio
77 "Nicho" Ramirez Esparza, who died November 27, 2008; and
88 WHEREAS, Nicho Esparza was born January 25, 1928, to Willie
99 Lerma Esparza and Maria Luisa Ramirez Esparza; he grew up in a
1010 large and loving family on the family ranch in El Ranchito; and
1111 WHEREAS, Following his high school career, Mr. Esparza
1212 served in the United States Army as part of the occupation forces
1313 in Germany; after his service in the armed forces, he met and
1414 married Zifa Zayas, his wife of 56 years, and the couple raised
1515 seven children, who blessed them with 11 grandchildren and two
1616 great-grandchildren; and
1717 WHEREAS, Mr. Esparza dedicated himself to managing the
1818 family ranch, and his farming and ranching ability, along with
1919 his expertise in vegetable processing and wholesaling, made him a
2020 model for others in the area; and
2121 WHEREAS, He was a leader in the community and a mentor to
2222 many; active in civic affairs, he served on the boards of the San
2323 Benito Bank and Trust and the Amigo Savings and Loan; he also
2424 served as an advisor to the government's Bracero Program during
2525 the Kennedy administration; and
2626 WHEREAS, Mr. Esparza was an avid hunter and sportsman, and
2727 he shared his enthusiasm for the outdoors with his family and his
2828 many friends; and
2929 WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, Mr.
3030 Esparza gave generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and
3131 valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
3232 WHEREAS, A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he
3333 will long be remembered with affection and admiration by all who
3434 were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
3636 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3737 family and friends of Jos Dionicio Ramirez Esparza; and, be it
3838 further
3939 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4040 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4141 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4242 memory of Jos Dionicio Ramirez Esparza.
