| 4 | 4 | | memorial tribute to the life of Freddy Fender, the dedication of |

| 5 | 5 | | his gravesite, and the grand opening of San Benito Memorial Park |

| 6 | 6 | | on June 6, 2009; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, The Freddy Fender Memorial in the city's new |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | cemetery will feature six monuments surrounding the final |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | resting place of the late musician that depict his personal life |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | and professional accomplishments; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Born and raised in San Benito, Baldemar Huerta |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | took the name Freddy Fender when he began recording the soulful |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | music that rose to the top of the charts and earned him much fame; |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | he had a long and prolific career and received many awards, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | including a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, His life is also memorialized in the Freddy Fender |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Museum, which contains his Grammy awards and other artifacts, and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | in the name of the Freddy Fender Water Tower, a San Benito |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | landmark; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Freddy Fender cherished his hometown, and it is |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | fitting that the City of San Benito honor the memory of the famous |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | entertainer, admired humanitarian, and one of the city's most |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | beloved native sons; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby honor the memory of Freddy Fender and extend |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | best wishes to his family and to San Benito officials for a |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | memorable dedication ceremony for the Freddy Fender Memorial in |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | the San Benito Memorial Park; and, be it further |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared to |
