| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Dr. Julia De Foor Jay, who has been named a Piper |

| 4 | 4 | | Professor of 2009; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. De Foor Jay was selected for the title of |

| 6 | 6 | | Piper Professor by the board of directors of the Minnie Stevens |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Piper Foundation; the award honors professors in Texas colleges |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | and universities for outstanding scholarly and academic |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | achievement and for excellence in the teaching profession; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Dr. De Foor Jay is a professor of English at the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | San Jacinto College Central Campus; she was nominated for the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | award by the president of San Jacinto College; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, A native of Houston, Dr. De Foor Jay taught for |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | two decades at Pasadena High School before joining the faculty of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | San Jacinto College; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, An exemplary professor, Dr. De Foor Jay has |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | consistently set high standards and has aspired to excellence |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | throughout her years of teaching, and she has enriched the lives |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | of countless students through her dedication and skill; now, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | therefore, be it |

| 21 | 21 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Julia De Foor Jay on her |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | exceptional service in the field of education and extend |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | congratulations to her on earning the title of Piper Professor of |
|---|
