SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1038 In Memory of Jesse B. Poston WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Jesse B. Poston, who died April 29, 2009, at the age of 80; and WHEREAS, Born May 12, 1928, in San Antonio, Jess Poston worked his way through Central Catholic High School and graduated in 1945; he earned a degree in electrical engineering at Notre Dame University in 1949, and soon thereafter, he married Jennita Goodman; and WHEREAS, Jess joined City Public Service in 1949 as a test engineer and eventually moved up to the position of assistant general manager of operations, a challenging post he held until his retirement in 1986; he was responsible for the engineering of power plants and the intricate process of distributing electricity to consumers; he also served as chairman of the South Texas Nuclear Project Management Committee from 1978 to 1987; and WHEREAS, He was dedicated to his work as a leader in his community and served as chairman of the Bexar Appraisal District Board, the Bexar County Sheriff Civil Service Commission Board, and the Patrician Substance Abuse Rehab Center Board; he was president of San Antonio Kiwanis and the San Antonio Breakfast Club; and WHEREAS, Jess was an exemplary gentleman and was highly respected for his many accomplishments; he was a man of integrity, strength, and generosity who gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and WHEREAS, Jess Poston was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Jesse B. Poston: his wife of 58 years, Jennita; his daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah Poston McBrearty and Tim, Donna Poston Williams and Monte, Dori Poston Stinson and Rick, and Dana Poston Hawkes; his sons, John Poston and Michael Poston; his siblings, Betty Lois Kissling, Joyce Yanta, Judith Poston, and James Poston; and his 13 grandchildren; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jesse B. Poston.
