5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |

6 | 6 | | citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Jesse B. Poston, |
---|
7 | 7 | | who died April 29, 2009, at the age of 80; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born May 12, 1928, in San Antonio, Jess Poston |
---|
9 | 9 | | worked his way through Central Catholic High School and graduated |
---|
10 | 10 | | in 1945; he earned a degree in electrical engineering at Notre |
---|
11 | 11 | | Dame University in 1949, and soon thereafter, he married Jennita |
---|
12 | 12 | | Goodman; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Jess joined City Public Service in 1949 as a test |
---|
14 | 14 | | engineer and eventually moved up to the position of assistant |
---|
15 | 15 | | general manager of operations, a challenging post he held until |
---|
16 | 16 | | his retirement in 1986; he was responsible for the engineering of |
---|
17 | 17 | | power plants and the intricate process of distributing |
---|
18 | 18 | | electricity to consumers; he also served as chairman of the South |
---|
19 | 19 | | Texas Nuclear Project Management Committee from 1978 to 1987; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, He was dedicated to his work as a leader in his |
---|
21 | 21 | | community and served as chairman of the Bexar Appraisal District |
---|
22 | 22 | | Board, the Bexar County Sheriff Civil Service Commission Board, |
---|
23 | 23 | | and the Patrician Substance Abuse Rehab Center Board; he was |
---|
24 | 24 | | president of San Antonio Kiwanis and the San Antonio Breakfast |
---|
25 | 25 | | Club; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Jess was an exemplary gentleman and was highly |
---|
27 | 27 | | respected for his many accomplishments; he was a man of |
---|
28 | 28 | | integrity, strength, and generosity who gave unselfishly of his |
---|
29 | 29 | | time to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will |
---|
30 | 30 | | not be forgotten by those who knew him; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Jess Poston was a devoted husband, father, and |
---|
32 | 32 | | grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured |
---|
33 | 33 | | forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it |
---|
34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
---|
35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
36 | 36 | | family of Jesse B. Poston: his wife of 58 years, Jennita; his |
---|
37 | 37 | | daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah Poston McBrearty and Tim, |
---|
38 | 38 | | Donna Poston Williams and Monte, Dori Poston Stinson and Rick, |
---|
39 | 39 | | and Dana Poston Hawkes; his sons, John Poston and Michael Poston; |

40 | 40 | | his siblings, Betty Lois Kissling, Joyce Yanta, Judith Poston, |

41 | 41 | | and James Poston; and his 13 grandchildren; and, be it further |
