55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Jesse B. Poston,
77 who died April 29, 2009, at the age of 80; and
88 WHEREAS, Born May 12, 1928, in San Antonio, Jess Poston
99 worked his way through Central Catholic High School and graduated
1010 in 1945; he earned a degree in electrical engineering at Notre
1111 Dame University in 1949, and soon thereafter, he married Jennita
1212 Goodman; and
1313 WHEREAS, Jess joined City Public Service in 1949 as a test
1414 engineer and eventually moved up to the position of assistant
1515 general manager of operations, a challenging post he held until
1616 his retirement in 1986; he was responsible for the engineering of
1717 power plants and the intricate process of distributing
1818 electricity to consumers; he also served as chairman of the South
1919 Texas Nuclear Project Management Committee from 1978 to 1987; and
2020 WHEREAS, He was dedicated to his work as a leader in his
2121 community and served as chairman of the Bexar Appraisal District
2222 Board, the Bexar County Sheriff Civil Service Commission Board,
2323 and the Patrician Substance Abuse Rehab Center Board; he was
2424 president of San Antonio Kiwanis and the San Antonio Breakfast
2525 Club; and
2626 WHEREAS, Jess was an exemplary gentleman and was highly
2727 respected for his many accomplishments; he was a man of
2828 integrity, strength, and generosity who gave unselfishly of his
2929 time to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will
3030 not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
3131 WHEREAS, Jess Poston was a devoted husband, father, and
3232 grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
3333 forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
3535 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3636 family of Jesse B. Poston: his wife of 58 years, Jennita; his
3737 daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah Poston McBrearty and Tim,
3838 Donna Poston Williams and Monte, Dori Poston Stinson and Rick,
3939 and Dana Poston Hawkes; his sons, John Poston and Michael Poston;
4040 his siblings, Betty Lois Kissling, Joyce Yanta, Judith Poston,
4141 and James Poston; and his 13 grandchildren; and, be it further
4242 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4343 the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
4444 from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
4545 day, it do so in memory of Jesse B. Poston.
