| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Cynthia Reyna, who received the Hispanic Heritage |

| 4 | 4 | | Foundation's 2008 Youth Award for Engineering and Mathematics; |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Cynthia graduated with a 3.96 grade point average |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | from Charles H. Milby High School in Houston, where she was |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | president of the National Honor Society and secretary of the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | English Honor Society; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, She is an advanced placement scholar with honors, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | a high honor roll student, a two-time first place science fair |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | winner, and a second place winner of the Science Bowl |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | competition; she received a pre-engineering scholarship from the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | United Space Alliance and the Society of Mexican American |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Engineers and Scientists, a Phi Beta Kappa scholarship, and a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Jesse H. Jones Scholarship; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, In 2007, Cynthia participated in a summer |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | internship program at the Baylor College of Medicine and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | conducted scientific research on cisplatin-induced toxicities; |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | she also served as an intern for the Institute of Orthopedic |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Research at the Methodist Center; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, She is active in her community and helps residents |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | complete paperwork at United States citizenship workshops, and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | she has volunteered numerous hours in the technology department |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | of the Raul Yzaguirre School for Success; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, One of Cynthia's career goals is to design |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | structures that are more resilient and can withstand natural |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | disasters and long-term use; she plans to major in civil |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | engineering at Texas A&M University; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Cynthia Reyna on her many |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | achievements and extend to her best wishes for continued success |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | in all her future endeavors; and, be it further |
