| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, When they married, Mary L. Ramirez and Jose D. |

| 3 | 3 | | Ramirez made a lifetime commitment to each other, and their |

| 4 | 4 | | mutual trust has been amply rewarded, for they are now |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Mary and Jose Ramirez met in 1953 during their |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | college years, and they married on May 31, 1959; they have one |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | son, Eddie Ramirez, and have been blessed with a long and happy |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | life together; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Mary Ramirez served in the field of education for |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | 42 years and retired in 1997; she had a highly successful career |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | that included teaching grades one through 12, supervising the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | bilingual education program in the Edinburg Consolidated |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Independent School District, and serving as a professional |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | counselor at the high school level; she was selected for |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | inclusion in Who's Who Among America's Teachers in 1996; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Jose Ramirez also had a successful career in the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | field of education, which included serving as an elementary |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | school principal and as a school counselor and teaching general |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | science, social studies, language arts, and remedial |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | mathematics; he evaluated education systems and revised |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | curriculum for courses in science; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mary and Jose are both members of the United |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | States of America Council of Serra International Club, which |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | provides assistance to seminarians, and of the Order of Alhambra, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | which assists young people who have disabilities; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The world has changed considerably during the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | years of their marriage, yet Mr. and Mrs. Ramirez have cherished |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | traditional family and moral values and have been leaders in the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | field of education and in their community; and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, The long and happy union of Mr. and Mrs. Ramirez |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | is truly an inspiration to us all; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Jose |

| 35 | 35 | | Ramirez on their 50th wedding anniversary; and, be it further |

| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
