44 Adalberto Carlos Thomae, Jr.
55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Adalberto Carlos
77 Thomae, Jr., who died December 27, 2008, at the age of 88; and
88 WHEREAS, Adalberto Thomae was born in San Antonio to
99 Gertrudis Yndo and Adalberto Carlos Thomae, Sr., on July 15,
1010 1920; and
1111 WHEREAS, He was a descendant of Adolph Carl Thomae, a
1212 founder of New Braunfels; Don Miguel Yndo, a ranch founder and
1313 Canary Island settler; and Erastus "Deaf" Smith, a hero of the
1414 Battle of San Jacinto; and
1515 WHEREAS, Known as "Beto," "Al," or "A.C." by his family and
1616 many friends, Adalberto bravely served his country during World
1717 War II in the Pacific Theater and survived injuries from
1818 hand-to-hand combat and shrapnel; he returned home to marry his
1919 childhood sweetheart and become a rancher; and
2020 WHEREAS, Adalberto spent his life operating and preserving
2121 his family's historic Thomae-Yndo Ranch in Wilson County; after a
2222 severe drought in 1951, he had to become a part-time rancher; he
2323 moved to San Antonio's South Side and began traveling throughout
2424 South Texas as a wholesale salesman for Morton Salt; he was a
2525 hunter and longtime conservationist and was a supporter of the
2626 Coastal Conservation Association of Texas; and
2727 WHEREAS, He was an exemplary gentleman who was known for
2828 his courage and intrepid spirit; the frequent host of
2929 get-togethers, barbecues, and hunts at the Thomae-Yndo Ranch, he
3030 was a friend of such Texas political giants as Lyndon B. Johnson
3131 and John Connally; full of vitality and active throughout his
3232 life, he was still herding cattle some months before his death;
3333 and
3434 WHEREAS, A prominent and beloved South Texas citizen,
3535 Adalberto Thomae was devoted to his family and many friends, and
3636 he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by all
3737 who loved him; now, therefore, be it
3838 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
3939 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
4040 family of Adalberto Carlos Thomae, Jr.: his wife of 62 years,
4141 Conita Benavides Thomae; his children, Connie Thomae Fitzgerald,
4242 and her husband, Bill, Al Thomae III, Bob Thomae, and his wife,
4343 Kim, and Mari Thomae Garza, and her husband, Jess; his sisters,
4444 Gertrude Thomae King and Rosemond Gomez Thomae; and his nine
4545 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and, be it further
4646 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4747 the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
4848 from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
4949 day, it do so in memory of Adalberto Thomae, Jr.
