| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | citizens of Mission in mourning the loss of Celestino Ramirez, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | who died May 18, 2009, at the age of 64; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A longtime educator and public servant, Celestino |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Ramirez was widely respected and admired in the Mission community |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | for his courage, his tenacity, and his many accomplishments as a |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | member of the Mission City Council; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Ramirez was a 1965 graduate of Mission High |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | School and served the nation as a member of the United States Army |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | in Vietnam; he went on to earn bachelor's and master's degrees |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | from Pan American University; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Ramirez enjoyed a long and productive career |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | with the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District as a |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | teacher, counselor, and principal; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, First elected to the Mission City Council in 1993, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Mr. Ramirez played an important role in the passage of the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Anzalduas Bridge project and the new Mission Chamber of Commerce |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | building; during his six terms on the council, he helped pass a |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | tax freeze for the elderly and disabled and voted to fund many |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | projects to improve city infrastructure and services; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Ramirez was devoted to his family, and he will |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | long be remembered for his generous spirit and his many |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | family of Celestino Ramirez; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | memory of Celestino Ramirez. |
