44 Celestino Ramirez
55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of Mission in mourning the loss of Celestino Ramirez,
77 who died May 18, 2009, at the age of 64; and
88 WHEREAS, A longtime educator and public servant, Celestino
99 Ramirez was widely respected and admired in the Mission community
1010 for his courage, his tenacity, and his many accomplishments as a
1111 member of the Mission City Council; and
1212 WHEREAS, Mr. Ramirez was a 1965 graduate of Mission High
1313 School and served the nation as a member of the United States Army
1414 in Vietnam; he went on to earn bachelor's and master's degrees
1515 from Pan American University; and
1616 WHEREAS, Mr. Ramirez enjoyed a long and productive career
1717 with the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District as a
1818 teacher, counselor, and principal; and
1919 WHEREAS, First elected to the Mission City Council in 1993,
2020 Mr. Ramirez played an important role in the passage of the
2121 Anzalduas Bridge project and the new Mission Chamber of Commerce
2222 building; during his six terms on the council, he helped pass a
2323 tax freeze for the elderly and disabled and voted to fund many
2424 projects to improve city infrastructure and services; and
2525 WHEREAS, Mr. Ramirez was devoted to his family, and he will
2626 long be remembered for his generous spirit and his many
2727 achievements; now, therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
2929 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3030 family of Celestino Ramirez; and, be it further
3131 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3232 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3333 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
3434 memory of Celestino Ramirez.
