SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 107 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Michael White for his years of outstanding service as a law enforcement officer and as sheriff of Orange County; and WHEREAS, A graduate of Lamar University, where he earned a degree in criminal justice, Michael White began his law enforcement career in 1981 as a patrol officer for the West Orange Police Department; and WHEREAS, He was first elected as Orange County sheriff in 1996, and he was reelected in 2000 and 2004; during his tenure, he was instrumental in implementing the use of the latest available technology to better serve local, district, and state law enforcement agencies; and WHEREAS, In his capacity as cochair of the Texas Sheriff's Association Legislative Committee, Sheriff White played an important role in the development of legislation dealing with the reporting of the overprescription of legal drugs by the medical profession; and WHEREAS, An effective and innovative leader, Sheriff White has an outstanding record of service to the public, and his professionalism and skill have earned him the respect of his colleagues and of the citizens of Orange County; he is truly deserving of recognition for his service; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend Michael White on his exceptional service as Orange County sheriff and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
