| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Michael White for his years of outstanding service as a |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | law enforcement officer and as sheriff of Orange County; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A graduate of Lamar University, where he earned a |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | degree in criminal justice, Michael White began his law |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | enforcement career in 1981 as a patrol officer for the West |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Orange Police Department; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, He was first elected as Orange County sheriff in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 1996, and he was reelected in 2000 and 2004; during his tenure, he |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | was instrumental in implementing the use of the latest available |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | technology to better serve local, district, and state law |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | enforcement agencies; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, In his capacity as cochair of the Texas Sheriff's |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Association Legislative Committee, Sheriff White played an |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | important role in the development of legislation dealing with the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | reporting of the overprescription of legal drugs by the medical |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | profession; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, An effective and innovative leader, Sheriff White |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | has an outstanding record of service to the public, and his |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | professionalism and skill have earned him the respect of his |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | colleagues and of the citizens of Orange County; he is truly |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | deserving of recognition for his service; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby commend Michael White on his exceptional |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | service as Orange County sheriff and extend to him best wishes |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | for continued success in all his future endeavors; and, be it |
