| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize February 4, 2009, as the second Susan G. Komen for the |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | Cure Advocacy Day in Texas; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | cancer among women in the United States; every three minutes, a |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | woman is diagnosed with the disease; in 2008, it was expected |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | that approximately 185,000 new cases of breast cancer would be |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | diagnosed in women, and some 41,000 women would die from the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | disease; it was also expected that almost 2,000 cases would be |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | diagnosed in men; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, For more than 25 years, Susan G. Komen for the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Cure has played a major role in raising awareness about breast |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | cancer through its support of research, education, and treatment |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | programs, which have led to increased early detection and greater |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | survival rates; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, With more than 100,000 survivors and activists as |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | supporters, the Komen Affiliate Network is the nation's largest |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | private funder of community-based breast health education and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | breast cancer screening and treatment programs; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Breast cancer touches the lives of thousands in |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the Lone Star State, and Komen for the Cure is to be commended for |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | the vision, passion, and tenacity it brings to its vital mission; |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby recognize February 4, 2009, as the second |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Susan G. Komen for the Cure Advocacy Day in Texas and extend to |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | all those associated with Komen for the Cure sincere appreciation |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | for their commitment to such an important cause; and, be it |
