55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Amy McBrayer Young, who died on
77 September 20, 2008, at the age of 38; and
88 WHEREAS, Amy Young wanted to make a difference in the world
99 and make it a better place; during her too-short life, she did
1010 just that; she approached everything she did with enthusiasm, an
1111 insatiable curiosity, and an energetic spirit; and
1212 WHEREAS, At the time of her death, she was a public policy
1313 specialist for the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities,
1414 where she was a learned student of public policy and a tireless
1515 advocate for people with disabilities; she previously worked for
1616 the Senate Research Center and the Texas Legislative Council; and
1717 WHEREAS, Amy was born in Houston on November 9, 1969; she
1818 earned a bachelor of arts degree in English from Austin College
1919 in Sherman and a master's degree from the LBJ School of Public
2020 Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin; and
2121 WHEREAS, She gave generously of her time and energy as a
2222 volunteer for SafePlace and the Texas Council for Family
2323 Violence; she was an active member of Wildflower Church and
2424 worked with Austin Interfaith; she enjoyed hiking, kayaking, and
2525 traveling; and
2626 WHEREAS, Amy was renowned for her loyalty, her charm, and
2727 her passion for life, and she was admired and respected by all who
2828 knew her; a devoted daughter, sister, and friend, she leaves
2929 behind memories that will be treasured forever by her family and
3030 many friends; now, therefore, be it
3131 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
3232 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Amy McBrayer Young
3333 and extend sincere condolences to her bereaved family; and, be it
3434 further
3535 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3636 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3737 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day it do so in
3838 memory of Amy McBrayer Young.
