55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of El Paso in mourning the loss of Veronica Teresa
77 O'Hagan Cook, who died January 22, 2009, at the age of 88; and
88 WHEREAS, Veronica O'Hagan was the daughter of the late John
99 and Catherine O'Hagan; she married her beloved husband, John F.
1010 Cook, Sr., a veteran of World War II, at Saint Ephraim Church in
1111 Brooklyn, New York; and
1212 WHEREAS, Veronica Cook was a gifted schoolteacher who
1313 taught kindergarten and religious education at Most Holy Trinity
1414 School; she loved all children and was devoted to her students,
1515 whom she mentored with wisdom and deep affection; and
1616 WHEREAS, El Paso was her home for 36 years, and she was
1717 respected in her community for her generous nature, her many
1818 accomplishments, and her keen sense of humor; and
1919 WHEREAS, She was a woman of great faith who embraced life
2020 with fortitude, grace, and dignity and who gave unselfishly of
2121 her time and energy to others; and
2222 WHEREAS, Veronica Cook was a source of strength to many and
2323 was beloved by her family and friends, and she leaves behind
2424 memories that will be treasured forever by all who were fortunate
2525 to share in her life; now, therefore, be it
2626 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
2727 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
2828 family of Veronica Teresa Cook: her children, Veronica Cook,
2929 John Cook, Jr., Michael Cook, Edward Cook, Joan Keating, Edna
3030 Benson, and Kevin Cook; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren,
3131 and great-great-grandchild; and her brother, John O'Hagan; and,
3232 be it further
3333 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3434 the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
3535 from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
3636 day, it do so in memory of Veronica Cook.
