SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 119 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join the citizens of Mesquite in recognizing January 30, 2009, as Chief Wilbur Montgomery Day; and WHEREAS, Chief Wilbur Montgomery is being honored for his 35 years of service with the Mesquite Fire Department; and WHEREAS, Wilbur Montgomery began his career with the Mesquite Fire Department on November 12, 1973; within a year of his initial employment, he was issued two commendation letters for volunteering to teach fire safety classes at the Mesquite Independent School District; and WHEREAS, He became a driver-engineer in 1977 and was promoted to lieutenant in 1995 and to captain in 1999; and WHEREAS, He helped initiate the "Fired up for Santa" program in 2003 and served for several years on the United Way campaign; and WHEREAS, He was named Officer of the Year for 2005 and was promoted to deputy chief of the emergency medical services division in 2006; and WHEREAS, In his role as deputy chief, Chief Montgomery has instituted new equipment such as the Power-Pro stretchers and cardiac monitors to enhance patient care and reduce injuries to paramedics; and WHEREAS, Chief Montgomery also began the process of getting the department on its way to electronic patient care reporting; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby recognize January 30, 2009, as Chief Wilbur Montgomery Day and urge all residents of Mesquite to congratulate Wilbur on an outstanding career with the Mesquite Fire Department and express sincere appreciation to him for his unwavering dedication and service to the City of Mesquite; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for Chief Wilbur Montgomery in honor of this special occasion.
