5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
---|
6 | 6 | | citizens of Harlingen in mourning the loss of Frank E. Shepard, |
---|
7 | 7 | | who died January 10, 2009, at the age of 81; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Frank Shepard was born July 17, 1927, in |
---|
9 | 9 | | Knoxville, Tennessee, and grew up in Maryville, Tennessee; he |
---|
10 | 10 | | served in Japan as a United States Army paratrooper; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Shepard attended the University of Tennessee |
---|
12 | 12 | | and earned degrees in dentistry and orthodontics from the |
---|
13 | 13 | | university's dental school in Memphis; in 1954 he moved to |
---|
14 | 14 | | Harlingen, where he practiced orthodontics for more than 50 |
---|
15 | 15 | | years, earning the appreciation of his patients for his excellent |
---|
16 | 16 | | work; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Shepard was a lifetime member of the Texas |
---|
18 | 18 | | Dental Association, the American Dental Association, and the |
---|
19 | 19 | | American Association of Orthodontics; while still in dental |
---|
20 | 20 | | school, he was chosen as a member of the Odontological Honor |
---|
21 | 21 | | Society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon, and Psi Omega dental fraternity; |
---|
22 | 22 | | and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, An avid flyer, Dr. Shepard was a member of the |
---|
24 | 24 | | Confederate Air Force, and he flew often to Tennessee and around |
---|
25 | 25 | | the United States and Mexico with his family; he also belonged to |
---|
26 | 26 | | the Harlingen Country Club, Life Begins at 40, and Saint Alban's |
---|
27 | 27 | | Episcopal Church; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he |
---|
29 | 29 | | gave generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued |
---|
30 | 30 | | counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; now, |
---|
31 | 31 | | therefore, be it |

32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
---|
33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the family of |

34 | 34 | | Frank E. Shepard: his wife, Helen; his sons and |
---|
35 | 35 | | daughters-in-law, Robert Shepard and his wife, Anne, and Stephen |
---|
36 | 36 | | Shepard and his wife, Suzanne; his daughters and sons-in-law, |

37 | 37 | | Beth Stewart and her husband, Charles, and Annette Bender and her |

38 | 38 | | husband, Jon; his sister, Francis Shepard Reid; and his extended |
