44 Frank E. Shepard
55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of Harlingen in mourning the loss of Frank E. Shepard,
77 who died January 10, 2009, at the age of 81; and
88 WHEREAS, Frank Shepard was born July 17, 1927, in
99 Knoxville, Tennessee, and grew up in Maryville, Tennessee; he
1010 served in Japan as a United States Army paratrooper; and
1111 WHEREAS, Dr. Shepard attended the University of Tennessee
1212 and earned degrees in dentistry and orthodontics from the
1313 university's dental school in Memphis; in 1954 he moved to
1414 Harlingen, where he practiced orthodontics for more than 50
1515 years, earning the appreciation of his patients for his excellent
1616 work; and
1717 WHEREAS, Dr. Shepard was a lifetime member of the Texas
1818 Dental Association, the American Dental Association, and the
1919 American Association of Orthodontics; while still in dental
2020 school, he was chosen as a member of the Odontological Honor
2121 Society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon, and Psi Omega dental fraternity;
2222 and
2323 WHEREAS, An avid flyer, Dr. Shepard was a member of the
2424 Confederate Air Force, and he flew often to Tennessee and around
2525 the United States and Mexico with his family; he also belonged to
2626 the Harlingen Country Club, Life Begins at 40, and Saint Alban's
2727 Episcopal Church; and
2828 WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
2929 gave generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued
3030 counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; now,
3131 therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
3333 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the family of
3434 Frank E. Shepard: his wife, Helen; his sons and
3535 daughters-in-law, Robert Shepard and his wife, Anne, and Stephen
3636 Shepard and his wife, Suzanne; his daughters and sons-in-law,
3737 Beth Stewart and her husband, Charles, and Annette Bender and her
3838 husband, Jon; his sister, Francis Shepard Reid; and his extended
3939 family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and, be it
4040 further
4141 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4242 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4343 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4444 memory of Frank E. Shepard.
