| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Community colleges play an increasingly important |

| 3 | 3 | | role in higher education in the State of Texas, and on February 4, |

| 4 | 4 | | 2009, a delegation of more than 1,000 Texas community college |

| 5 | 5 | | students are converging at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Leaders of the Texas Junior College Student |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Government Association, including President Shane Scott, are |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | being joined by community college honors students, community |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | college trustees, and members of the Texas Association of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Community Colleges to discuss the essential contributions their |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | schools make to the state; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, The total annual enrollment for Texas community |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and technical colleges exceeds one million students, accounting |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | for half of the state's postsecondary student population and the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | largest sector of higher education; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The community colleges of Texas clearly serve a |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | vital function in the educational and economic development of the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | state, and it is a pleasure to welcome these outstanding |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | students, teachers, and administrators to Austin; now, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | therefore, be it |

| 21 | 21 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |

| 22 | 22 | | Legislature, hereby recognize February 4, 2009, as Community |

| 23 | 23 | | College Student Day at the Capitol and extend to all the |

| 24 | 24 | | participants best wishes for a memorable and productive visit; |
