2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

3 | 3 | | recognize the Children's Advocacy Centers of Texas, |
---|
4 | 4 | | Incorporated, for their outstanding work in protecting and |
---|
5 | 5 | | providing for children and to join citizens across the state in |
---|
6 | 6 | | celebrating February 10, 2009, as Children's Advocacy Centers of |
---|
7 | 7 | | Texas Day; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Children's Advocacy Centers of Texas, |
---|
9 | 9 | | Incorporated, was founded with a charter membership of 13 local |
---|
10 | 10 | | advocacy centers; it has grown to include 63 local centers |
---|
11 | 11 | | throughout the state, which makes it the largest organization of |
---|
12 | 12 | | children's advocacy centers in the nation; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The organization offers training programs, |
---|
14 | 14 | | conducts site visits, provides a case tracking system, and offers |
---|
15 | 15 | | a director mentoring program to help local centers better provide |
---|
16 | 16 | | for and protect the children in their care; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Local advocacy centers serve over 40,000 children |
---|
18 | 18 | | each year, over three-quarters of whom are involved in sexual |
---|
19 | 19 | | abuse allegations; the local advocacy centers work to bring these |
---|
20 | 20 | | young victims both justice and healing and to create partnerships |
---|
21 | 21 | | with communities and agencies to coordinate the investigation |
---|
22 | 22 | | and prosecution of child abuse cases; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Children's Advocacy Centers bring together a |
---|
24 | 24 | | variety of unique disciplines, including law enforcement, |
---|
25 | 25 | | prosecution, child protective services, and mental and medical |
---|
26 | 26 | | health services, to create a collaborative approach to |
---|
27 | 27 | | investigating and prosecuting child abuse; this approach results |
---|
28 | 28 | | in the prompt, efficient, and comprehensive sharing of |
---|
29 | 29 | | information and evidence and diminishes the often traumatic |
---|
30 | 30 | | investigative process; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Child abuse and neglect remain pressing issues |
---|
32 | 32 | | that should concern all the citizens of the state; local advocacy |
---|
33 | 33 | | centers offer abused children a safe and child-friendly haven to |
---|
34 | 34 | | begin their journey to justice and healing; now, therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
---|
36 | 36 | | Legislature, hereby commend Children's Advocacy Centers of |
---|
37 | 37 | | Texas, Incorporated, on its dedication to improving the lives of |
---|
38 | 38 | | the most vulnerable among us and extend best wishes for a |
---|
39 | 39 | | memorable Children's Advocacy Centers of Texas Day; and, be it |
