11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 134
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize the Children's Advocacy Centers of Texas,
44 Incorporated, for their outstanding work in protecting and
55 providing for children and to join citizens across the state in
66 celebrating February 10, 2009, as Children's Advocacy Centers of
77 Texas Day; and
88 WHEREAS, Children's Advocacy Centers of Texas,
99 Incorporated, was founded with a charter membership of 13 local
1010 advocacy centers; it has grown to include 63 local centers
1111 throughout the state, which makes it the largest organization of
1212 children's advocacy centers in the nation; and
1313 WHEREAS, The organization offers training programs,
1414 conducts site visits, provides a case tracking system, and offers
1515 a director mentoring program to help local centers better provide
1616 for and protect the children in their care; and
1717 WHEREAS, Local advocacy centers serve over 40,000 children
1818 each year, over three-quarters of whom are involved in sexual
1919 abuse allegations; the local advocacy centers work to bring these
2020 young victims both justice and healing and to create partnerships
2121 with communities and agencies to coordinate the investigation
2222 and prosecution of child abuse cases; and
2323 WHEREAS, Children's Advocacy Centers bring together a
2424 variety of unique disciplines, including law enforcement,
2525 prosecution, child protective services, and mental and medical
2626 health services, to create a collaborative approach to
2727 investigating and prosecuting child abuse; this approach results
2828 in the prompt, efficient, and comprehensive sharing of
2929 information and evidence and diminishes the often traumatic
3030 investigative process; and
3131 WHEREAS, Child abuse and neglect remain pressing issues
3232 that should concern all the citizens of the state; local advocacy
3333 centers offer abused children a safe and child-friendly haven to
3434 begin their journey to justice and healing; now, therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
3636 Legislature, hereby commend Children's Advocacy Centers of
3737 Texas, Incorporated, on its dedication to improving the lives of
3838 the most vulnerable among us and extend best wishes for a
3939 memorable Children's Advocacy Centers of Texas Day; and, be it
4040 further
4141 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4242 this exemplary organization as an expression of high regard from
4343 the Texas Senate.
