55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Tomas "T.T."
77 Moreno, who died recently at the age of 59; and
88 WHEREAS, Tomas "T.T." Moreno was born October 20, 1949; a
99 volunteer, an activist, and a devoted family man, he was
1010 respected and admired in his community for his devotion to
1111 service and his many achievements; and
1212 WHEREAS, Mr. Moreno enjoyed a long and productive career as
1313 a firefighter with the San Antonio Fire Department; during his
1414 tenure with the department, he became active in his union,
1515 leading to a legacy of political involvement that saw him hold
1616 numerous offices and positions of responsibility; and
1717 WHEREAS, Mr. Moreno served as president of his union's
1818 political action committee and as vice president and legislative
1919 director for the AFL-CIO; in his capacity as a union leader, he
2020 often traveled to sessions of the Texas Legislature, advocating
2121 for legislation to aid the working men and women of Texas; and
2222 WHEREAS, Active in community affairs, Mr. Moreno
2323 volunteered with the Knights of Columbus at Saint Mark's Catholic
2424 Church, serving as a coach and holding other positions in the
2525 organization; he also participated in numerous activities with
2626 the Boy Scouts of America; and
2727 WHEREAS, A man of strength, passion, and courage in the
2828 face of adversity, Mr. Moreno gave generously to others, and his
2929 wisdom, his warmth, his sense of humor, and his love of spirited
3030 debate will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
3131 WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and
3232 grandfather, and his family and many friends will continue to
3333 live with the cherished memories of his life and many
3434 achievements; now, therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
3636 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3737 family of Tomas "T.T." Moreno: his wife, Deborah A. Moreno; his
3838 children, Tomas Moreno, Jr., Jason Moreno, Kandice Hall, Kristin
3939 Holzman, and Keely Rogers; his grandchildren, Tomas, Michael,
4040 Sebastian, and Dominic Moreno and Delanie and Caiden Holzman; his
4141 brothers, Blas, Alex, Miguel, Juan, and Jimmy Moreno; and his
4242 sisters, Victoria Moreno Hernandez and Filiciana Moreno
4343 Gonzalez; and, be it further
4444 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4545 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4646 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4747 memory of Tomas Moreno.
