| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Wise County are gathering at the |

| 3 | 3 | | State Capitol on February 9 and 10, 2009, to celebrate the role |

| 4 | 4 | | their county has played in the history of our great state; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Officially created in 1856, the county was named |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | in honor of Henry A. Wise, a United States congressman from |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Virginia who lent support to the annexation of Texas in the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | 1840s; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Wise County is located in Northwest Texas and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | enjoys a diverse economy, primarily centered around |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | agribusiness, petroleum, manufacturing, and tourism; it is one |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | of the 30 fastest-growing counties in the state and boasts a |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | varied topography of rolling hills and flat terrain of red clay; |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The area's historic sites and cultural |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | attractions draw many visitors to Decatur, the county seat and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | home to the Waggoner Mansion, the Old Stone Prison, the Wise |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | County Heritage Museum, and the historic pink granite Wise County |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Courthouse built in 1895; other towns in the county include |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Bridgeport, Alvord, Aurora, Boyd, Briar, Chico, Greenwood, Lake |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Bridgeport, Newark, New Fairview, Paradise, Pecan Acres, Rhome, |

| 22 | 22 | | Runaway Bay, and Slidell; and |

| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, With its attractive landscape, the county is a |

| 24 | 24 | | desirable destination for visitors who enjoy the benefits of |

| 25 | 25 | | nature and outdoor recreational activities provided by Lake |

| 26 | 26 | | Bridgeport, Eagle Mountain Lake, and the Lyndon Baines Johnson |

| 27 | 27 | | National Grasslands; furthermore, the area's citizens celebrate |

| 28 | 28 | | their history with festive annual events, such as the Chisholm |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Trail Days in June and the Butterfield Stage Days in July; and |

| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, The residents of this notable Texas county have |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | played an important role in the development and preservation of |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | their region, and it is a pleasure to pay tribute to Wise County |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | and its citizens on this special occasion; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby proclaim February 9 and 10 Wise County Days |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | and extend sincere best wishes to the Wise County residents for |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | an enjoyable visit; and, be it further |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a |
